Olympic Hero?

Well this photo is probably familiar to nearly all of you. For those of you who don't know Olympic Star Michael Phelps was caught on camera taking a hit of this marijuana pipe. He got suspended from US Swimming for 3 months and his Kellogg's sponsorship has been ended. Did he really deserve this type of punishment? I mean it's only a little weed and he is after all young. Let the kid live his life he is obviously doing something right...He has won 14 Olympic Gold Medals!

    He is by far the greatest athlete in the world let the medals do the talking. Does it matter if he hits the bong a couple times? I think not.

    I agree with you Justin. I mean he probably doesn't smoke habitually but if a guy who won 14 gold medal at the olympics, in swimming non-the-less, probably one of the most trying events at the games and not just won them but i mean he blew them all out of the water (pun intended)then it really can't be that bad.

    I always hated this kid. But now i amlost have gained a little respect for this kid. Marijuana is not a drug. This is the dam truth. I have seen people on heroin and acid. Let me tell you that these my friends are drugs. He shouldnt be repremanded at all for smoking this natural substance that mother earth has been so kind to give us.

    I think that a few rips off a bong should not get an athlete in trouble, especially when you consider the amount of performance enhancing drugs used by other athletes today. What he did (though not super intelligent to let himself be photographed)was a part of a college kid's life. He may be one of the greatest athletes in the world, but he is also just some dude in college.

    i don't agree at all with what happened in south Carolina with the police raiding the kids house with search warrants because of this. i think that people who are making a big deal about this need to chill out and think about when they were his age.

    This has become such a controversial issue. I have become torn between both sides. On one end he has done something that many people have done so he is no more different from all those people but just because of his status in our society and that it is not accepted publicly he is getting a lot of hardship from it. On the other hand it wasn't such a good move at all. He knows the position he has right now and did not think very much before acting. Also I think this sets a bad example for kids and never have approved of the use of smoking due to the trouble it can cause people from addiction. Though eventually people will let this whole thing go I suppose.
